Open Source in Today's Economic Climate
Economic crisis. Enhanced security. Consolidation and integration. More with less. Need for change. These are topics that are currently circulating the ether. Here, at Likewise, we understand the impact of these topics on our customers and the effect that they will continue to have on all companies for some time to come. For this reason, we continue to work hard on Likewise Open, our open source project. We have just released Likewise Open Fall 08 which gives you enhanced security through the integration of your heterogeneous computer networks at the best price during this economic crisis— free.
In addition to Likewise Open Fall 08, we have also launched Likewise Enterprise 5.0, with important new features that build upon Likewise Open’s robust authentication. Of special note we have introduced Likewise Identity Service (LWIS), an advancement in enterprise-class authentication, and the Likewise Administrative Console (LAC), built on Mono, which gives Non-Windows administrators a way to manage all of their systems natively on the system of their choice. We also have introduced a new and unique way to support any policy created in Mac Workgroup manager and integrate it with Active Directory with no changes to the AD environment.
In these rough economic times, the ability to download and continuously use software which authenticates Linux, Unix, and Mac computers with Microsoft Active Directory is important because, in some cases, that is all you may need. If you have larger, business class needs you can upgrade to Likewise Enterprise with confidence that it will give you fast time to value. Something we all need in these uncertain times.
